Apparently, the iPod touch's screen cannot be scratched (according to this YouTube video); however, according to comments, the back scratches easily.

Don't Believe It!
Mine has a scratch in it that I can even feel with my fingernail. I don't know how it got there, but I wish I would have bought a case for it. Get something to protect it or you'll be annoyed like me.
Yeah well it's glass. Remember high school earth science? You need a very hard mineral, like diamond or corundum -- not a soft metal -- to scratch glass.
true my iPod touch screen also has a scratch which was done by a KEY. i think. i have 2 large scratches which you cannot notice while the display is on. :[
